Hellebore (gold thread) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Ranunculaceae family. The rootstock is horizontal, creeping, brown, branched, with multiple roots. The stem is green, upright up to 50 cm high. The basal leaf is palmate, with a handle, often overwintering. The stalks of leaves are more ancient, perched. The flowers are usually unpleasantly smelly, large and hanging, gathered in a top inflorescence of 2-4, greenish. Blooms in early spring from January to April.

It is found in the bushes and meadows of the foothills and mountain areas in many places in the country.

The rhizome (Rhizoma et radix Hellebori) is used. Picking in July - October, dredging the roots back to the roots after seed maturation. The herb is poisonous.

In medicine, it is used as a heart, laxative and urinary agent, but carefully because it is poisonous.
